Last week was warm and we lost all our snow. The kids schools had to cancel their skating and skiing events. Last Sunday we went for a walk and the ice on the lake near our house was melting. A few days ago it got colder again and it started snowing. Unfortunately we have been sick all week but today the kids could finally go out sledding. We had a lot of fun.
This week has been spent at home, both my husband and kids were sick and I stayed home to take care of them. I was busy and exhausted every day but as always, I need to do something creative to de-stress. I worked on these during my short breaks in between taking temperatures and serving drinks and food. I intended them to be flowers but my 7 year old daughter calls quite appropriately calls them snowflakes.
I made a few on a string and a few that I can hang one by one.
Below is the pattern and tutorial for these. I think I use a mix of British and American crochet terms but the pictures should explain what I mean. I use a 2,5 size needle (C/2 American). You will have a different look depending on the yarn you choose. Above I used really thin wool yarn and below I used a thicker cotton yarn.

After I finish them, I usually pin them to a board and spray some water on them. I leave them like this overnight. They end up nice and straight after that.
If you are new to crochet and have a hard time following this tutorial, please leave a comment and I can help you with the basic stitches. ANYONE can crochet, if I could learn, so can you! I will add some video tutorials later too, for those who are interested. Another option is to search YouTube, you can find lots of good tutorials there. Enjoy!
