One of my biggest inspiration for crochet projects and designs are flowers. I think anything looks better if decorated with a flower.
When I lived in Jordan I helped out with a handicraft project for a while. The women who were part of it got to learn a skill and were given some extra income through it. Many of them had their own ideas about what they wanted to use the money for and had plans to invest in different things to help support their family. It was so inspirational to see; crafting gives self-confidence and something to do but also helps the family and the community. One of the women wanted to teach the others to crochet. She showed me how to make this orange flower.
This flower was in our garden last summer and the color is almost exactly the same.
When I made the flower above I thought of that Jordanian woman. I can't remember her name but her willingness to teach her skills to help others is an inspiration to me.
The flower above is an absolute
favorite of mine. I found it on this blog. The pattern is in russian but I managed to figure it out. It is supposed to be on a blanket but I made a bigger one and but a safety pin on the back so I can wear it.
